📰 Mountain News

Cal Fire Highlights Early Fire Season Concerns

With a drier winter and warming temperatures heading into spring, Cal Fire is already warning of elevated fire risk across the San Bernardino Mountains earlier than usual this year.

Officials note that lighter snowpack and longer dry stretches can lead to dry vegetation sooner in the season, increasing the potential for wildfires as early as late spring.

Mountain residents are encouraged to:
• Begin clearing defensible space around homes
• Remove dead vegetation and debris
• Stay aware of local fire restrictions as they’re announced

While conditions can still change with late-season storms, early preparation is key — especially in mountain communities where fire risk is always top of mind.
